Cinema halls to close in Telangana?
In a momentous move, reflecting the state of the Telugu Film Industry has unanimously decided to close single-screen theaters across Telangana for a 10-day closer. The Telangana State Single Theater Association said.
Telangana has around 250 single-screen theaters and in twin cities alone there are as many as 80.
As we all are aware of the prolonged box office slump that lead to the closer decision of theaters. In a fact that not many movies released are getting enough audiences to these theaters. And being difficult to even cover the daily charges and other operational expenses of these theaters.
These Single Theater halls will be closing from Friday, 17th May for 10 days. And are expected to resume normally from May 25th. As there are few lined up new releases this month scheduled.
Cinema halls to close in Telangana?
The closure is set to begin from Friday, May 17. Theaters are expected to resume normal operations on May 25th. With a lineup of new releases scheduled for the end of the month, including titles such as “Love Me,” “Gangs of Godavari,” “Harom Hara,” and “Satyabhama”.
According to a report in NewsTAP, the Secretary of the Telangana Exhibitors and Contractors Association stated. “Lack of content was the main reason for single theatres deciding to declare a holiday.”
There are 250 single-screen theatres remaining in Telangana, with around 80 located in the twin cities. This temporary shutdown, occurring during what is typically a profitable summer season, underscores the challenges faced by the industry. The absence of major releases during the 2024 holiday season, along with the poor performance of the few that did premiere, has necessitated this drastic measure.
Additionally, external factors such as elections and the IPL have exacerbated the situation by diverting public attention away from cinema. The resulting decrease in theatre footfall has made it difficult for single-screen owners to sustain operations.
