Delhi Police to Issue Notice to Telangana Congress Regarding Doctored Video of Home Minister
Investigators are set to issue a notice to the Telangana unit of the Congress part. In connection with a doctored video featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah, according to sources on Monday. The video in question altered Shah’s original statement on reservations for Muslims in Telangana. And falsely suggest he intended to abolish all reservation quotas. The doctored video was circulated on social media, leading to a police investigation.
The Delhi Police will send a team to Telangana to serve notices to those involved in tweeting the fake video. With a focus on the individuals responsible for posting it on X. “Since INC Telangana posted it on X, notice will be served to them also,” sources indicated.
The controversy arose after Amit Malviya, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT cell. Accused the Telangana Congress faction of circulating a manipulated video of Amit Shah. Malviya claimed that the video was entirely fabricated and had the potential to incite violence.

Investigators are working to trace the origin of the video and identify those responsible for its distribution. The Delhi Police registered an FIR following complaints from both the BJP and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Delhi Police Special Cell Cyber Wing’s IFSO unit subsequently filed an FIR, leading to a case registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
The FIR stated that the doctored videos were being circulated on Facebook and Twitter, spreading misleading information with the potential to cause communal disharmony. The MHA’s complaint emphasized that the doctored video could affect public tranquility and order, and urged legal action as per the law. The complaint also included a report detailing the links and social media handles from which the doctored videos were being shared.
This incident began with the circulation of a video on social media that appeared to show Home Minister Amit Shah making statements suggesting the BJP’s intention to annul reservation provisions for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The ongoing investigation aims to determine the video’s source and hold those responsible accountable for spreading misinformation.
