The highly anticipated film Devara: Part 1, starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor in the lead roles, has finally arrived in theaters. Directed by Koratala Siva, this big-budget film has created substantial buzz before its release. Let’s dive into the review and see how it stands up.
Plot Summary:
The film is set in Ratnagiri, a coastal village by the Red Sea. Here, Devara (Jr NTR), Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan), Rayappa (Srikanth), and others control their respective villages, aiding a powerful figure, Muruga (Murali Sharma), in smuggling goods from ships. Devara begins to question these illegal activities, but Bhaira disagrees and decides to kill Devara. However, Devara vanishes, and 12 years go by. Bhaira now rules Ratnagiri and is still on a mission to eliminate Devara. Meanwhile, Vara, Devara’s innocent and helpless son, unexpectedly teams up with Bhaira. Why does Vara join Bhaira? Does he harbor ill feelings toward his father? What happened to Devara – is he still alive? Has Bhaira succeeded in hunting him down? All these questions are answered in the film.
Strengths:
Jr NTR once again delivers an impressive performance, taking on dual roles as Devara and Vara. As Devara, he brings a balance of humility and power, while Vara exudes innocence and fear. He shines in both roles, keeping the audience hooked with his charismatic acting.
Saif Ali Khan stands out as Bhaira, a vengeful character determined to destroy Devara, marking a strong entry for him into Tollywood. Janhvi Kapoor performs well in her scenes, particularly those shared with young NTR, adding an enjoyable dimension to the film.
The action sequences are thrilling, designed to captivate the audience and elicit enthusiastic responses. Certain dialogues further enhance Devara’s character, giving him a heroic presence. Supporting performances by Srikanth, Prakash Raj, and others also contribute positively to the film’s overall impact.
Devara Part 1 Movie Review
Weaknesses:
Although the storyline is entertaining, it feels somewhat predictable. Koratala Siva could have elevated some parts of the film, especially in the second half, where the narrative becomes less engaging.
Several scenes lack the execution needed to make a strong impact, and with better handling, they could have significantly improved the film. Janhvi Kapoor’s screen time is limited, which may leave her fans wanting more. Prakash Raj’s character, while performed decently, could have benefited from a stronger backstory.
While impactful in the beginning, Saif Ali Khan’s role feels underutilized in the second half, and the climax arrives suddenly, leaving viewers somewhat startled.
Conclusion:
Devara: Part 1 is an action-packed entertainer that showcases Jr NTR at his finest. While the film’s storyline may be predictable at times and certain scenes drag, it’s a solid film overall with engaging performances, especially by Jr NTR, Janhvi Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan. Despite its flaws, it’s worth watching, and you won’t want to miss it on the big screen.
