ED Recovers Rs 20 Crore from Residence of Jharkhand Minister’s Secretary’s Domestic Help

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has recovered approximately Rs 20 crore in cash from premises linked to Sanjiv Lal. Who is the personal secretary to Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam. The money was reportedly found at the residence of Lal’s household help. During a search related to a money laundering case against Virendra K. Ram, a former chief engineer in the state’s rural development department.

This discovery was part of ongoing investigations into Ram. Who was arrested by the ED in February 2023 for alleged property accumulation worth Rs 100 crore through corruption. The probe agency found significant evidence during the search, including a pen drive containing transaction details involving Jharkhand politicians.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking at a public rally in Odisha’s Nabarangpur, addressed the ED’s raid in Jharkhand. He remarked, “Aaj Jharkhand me noton ke pahad mil rahe hain (big heaps of cash are being found in Jharkhand). Modi is taking action against corruption.”

The raid and the subsequent discovery of a large sum of cash have triggered reactions from politicians. BJP MP from Jharkhand’s Godda, Nishikant Dubey, shared a video of the search, suggesting that the cash haul could exceed Rs 30 crore. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also commented on the ED’s actions, accusing key figures in Jharkhand and Bihar politics of looting the country through corruption.

Minister Alamgir Alam has responded to the news, claiming he has no “official information” regarding the ED’s searches. “I have been watching TV, and it says the premises are linked to the official PS (private secretary) provided to me by the government,” he said, distancing himself from any personal involvement.

The ED’s investigation into the money laundering case continues, with a focus on unraveling a network of corruption and unaccounted wealth in Jharkhand’s political circles.
