IFFI 2025: Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna Receive Special Honours for 50 Glorious Years in Cinema

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is gearing up for a grand finale this year, with iconic stars Rajinikanth and Nandamuri Balakrishna set to be felicitated for completing 50 remarkable years in the film industry. The announcement was made by Dr. L. Murugan, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, during a media briefing attended by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Dr. Murugan noted that both Rajinikanth and Balakrishna have left an irreplaceable mark on Indian cinema. Celebrating their five-decade journey is not only a tribute to their individual achievements but also a recognition of their lasting impact on film culture across the country.

Balakrishna, one of Telugu cinema’s most influential stars, has acted in more than 100 movies throughout his career. His filmography includes memorable hits such as Samarasimha Reddy, Simha, Aditya 369, and Muddula Mavayya. Beyond films, he also serves as an MLA representing the ruling TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

Dr. Murugan further shared that IFFI continues to evolve each year with new additions and creative elements. This time, instead of a traditional opening ceremony, the festival will kick off with a vibrant float parade in Panaji.

The minister revealed that the parade will showcase 12 elaborate tableaux presented by different states and various government ministries, highlighting the diversity and richness of Indian cinema. This year’s edition has already attracted 7,500 registrations and will feature 270 films from 84 countries.

Japan has been named the focus country for IFFI 2025, while Spain and Australia will serve as the partner and spotlight nations. In addition, movie lovers can look forward to screenings of acclaimed films from prestigious festivals like Cannes, Venice, Berlinale, and more.
