Ilaiyaraaja Biopic Movie Launch Event
Great news for the fans of Maestro Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja! The official launch of his biopic film, titled ‘Ilaiyaraaja’, took place this morning in Chennai. Actor Kamal Haasan unveiled the captivating retro-style poster, which features Dhanush playing the role of the musical legend Ilaiyaraaja. Directed by Arun Matheswaran, who is well-known for his work in Captain Miller.
It is presented by Connekkt Media, PK Prime Production, and Mercuri Movies and produced by Sriram Bakthisaran, C.K. Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Ilamparithy Gajendrean, and Saurabh Mishra. The film features cinematography by Nirav Shah and production design by Muthuraj.
It was attended by several luminaries from the film industry, including Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, Vetrimaaran, and Thiagarajan Kumararaja.

While many find solace in his songs for a peaceful slumber, I, on the other hand, would spend my nights immersed in dreams of one day portraying his extraordinary life on the silver screen. The compositions of Ilayaraja Sir have been an invaluable asset in elevating my performances. From the very beginning of my career until now, whenever I needed to deliver something truly exceptional as an actor, I would immerse myself in his musical scores through my earphones, allowing them to guide me toward the perfect portrayal.
Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja has been and will forever remain my guiding light. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity to portray his character in this film. Ulaganayagan Kamal Hassan, who has had a deep connection with Maestro Ilaiyaraaja for decades, recently extended his heartfelt wishes to the entire team working on a project related to him. He acknowledged the immense responsibility and pressure that director Arun Matheswaran must be feeling in bringing this project to life. Kamal suggested that Arun could present his unique perspective on the life of Bharat Ratna Recipient “Maestro Ilaiyaraaja” in the film. According to Kamal, a film depicting the life of this legendary icon could have more than 10 interpretations, given the diverse experiences and influences upon many individuals. Therefore, he requested Arun to present his narrative about this musical luminary who stands as a beacon of pride in the music industry.
Kamal fondly reminisced about his collaboration with Isaignani Ilayaraja on the iconic song “Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan” from the movie Guna. He described it as a beautiful exchange of love and emotion. Kamal also expressed his best wishes to actor Dhanush, who might play a role in portraying Ilaiyaraaja’s biopic. He hoped that Dhanush would be able to depict the legendary musician’s life story with grace and finesse.
