Indian 2 -Disappointing Box Office Debut?
Shankar and Kamal Haasan’s high-budget vigilante drama ‘Indian 2’ hit theatres on 12th July but received mixed to negative reviews. Both critics and audiences pointed out several flaws, from Kamal’s look as Senapathi to the film’s lack of emotional depth and slow screenplay. Despite a few good scenes, the movie turned out to be a disappointment.
Concerns about ‘Indian 2’ arose ever since the teaser dropped, and the trailer did not meet expectations either. The absence of AR Rahman was felt, and Anirudh’s music did not live up to the mark. Released in multiple languages, many people waited for reviews before heading to the theatres.

As a result, the movie did not have a strong opening day, earning only 26 crores, far below the anticipated 50 crores. It made 17 crores in Tamil Nadu, 7.7 crores in the Telugu states, and just 1.2 crores in Hindi. Overseas, it managed to collect $1 million.
‘Indian 2: Zero Tolerance’ collected significantly less than Kamal’s last blockbuster ‘Vikram,’ which earned 66 crores on its first day, and ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ in which Kamal also starred, grossed 191.5 crores worldwide. Overall, ‘Indian 2’ is performing much more slowly than expected.
Many say the sequel pales in comparison to the original ‘Indian’ released in 1996. Previously, Kamal’s ‘Vishwaroopam’ earned 20 crores on its first day, while its second part made only 7.7 crores. The coming days will reveal whether ‘Indian 2’ can recover.
