Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Phase 1, 64% Voter Participation
Phase 1 of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed a notable 64% voter turnout across various states and Union territories. Marking a significant engagement of the electorate.
Taking place on April 19, the first phase of voting spanned 21 states and Union territories. Including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
A substantial number of over 16.63 crore voters, comprising approximately eight crore men and women each. Exercised their franchise across nearly 2 lakh polling stations.

Among the prominent figures contesting in this phase are Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, Jitendra Singh, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Sarbananda Sonowal. Additionally, candidates such as Gaurav Gogoi from Congress, Kanimozhi from DMK, and K Annamalai from BJP are vying for electoral success.
The BJP-led NDA seeks to solidify its majority, while the opposition INDIA bloc aims for a resurgence. Notably, in 2019, the UPA secured victory in 45 out of 102 seats, while the NDA claimed 41 seats. However, six of these seats have been reconfigured due to the delimitation exercise.
The general elections to determine 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha are scheduled across seven phases. Spanning from April 19 to June 1, with the announcement of results slated for June 4.
