Madhavi Latha: BJP’s Candidate from Hyderabad, Applauded by PM Modi, Challenging Asaduddin Owaisi
Madhavi Latha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Hyderabad, earned commendation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after her recent appearance on a prominent television program. Praising her performance, Modi highlighted Latha’s articulate arguments presented with both logic and fervor. The central government has provided her with ‘Y+’ category security by the CRPF, according to sources cited by news agency ANI.
Challenging the incumbent Asaduddin Owaisi in his stronghold, Latha emerged onto the political scene with her inclusion in the BJP’s candidate list for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections. She stands in opposition to Owaisi, who has represented Hyderabad for four consecutive terms. Notably, Hyderabad has been under the influence of the Owaisi family for approximately four decades, with Asaduddin succeeding his father Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi in 2004.

Madhavi Latha’s background reveals a multifaceted persona. As a cultural activist, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Nizam College and a Master’s degree in Political Science from Osmania University. Latha played a prominent role in advocating against the practice of instant triple talaq, which was criminalized by Parliament in 2019. Her candidacy carries significance given Owaisi’s vocal opposition to this legislation, which he deemed an assault on Muslim identity and citizenship.
A proficient Bharatanatyam dancer
Beyond her activism, Latha is an entrepreneur, an NCC cadet, and a proficient Bharatanatyam dancer. Serving as the chairperson of Hyderabad-based Virinchi Hospitals, she views her candidacy as recognition of her extensive charitable endeavors over nearly two decades.
In recent exchanges, Latha criticized Owaisi’s claims of receiving death threats, insinuating his purported connections with ISIS. This comes after Owaisi reported threats following his meeting with the family of deceased gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari. Owaisi asserted that these threats stemmed from social media posts, subsequent to Ansari’s demise due to a cardiac arrest on March 28.
