Nag Ashwin Shares Update on Kalki 2, Sequel to Blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD
Nag Ashwin’s magnum opus Kalki 2898 AD created history when it hit theaters in June 2024. Starring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, the sci-fi mythological spectacle grossed nearly ₹1,050 crore worldwide, becoming one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema. With such massive success, anticipation around the sequel, Kalki 2, has been sky-high.
Earlier, Ashwin had revealed that the sequel would begin production by the end of 2025. Recently, during a podcast appearance, he offered fans an important update about the film’s progress. While confirming his plans to start filming next year, the director explained that several factors need to align first. “The actors have to come together. Some of the pre-visualized and action sequences are much bigger this time, so it will take more preparation. Everyone is busy, and I don’t have a definite timeline yet,” he shared.

Ashwin further highlighted that while filming itself will require considerable time, post-production will demand even more effort. Given the scale of the visuals and VFX involved, he estimated that the sequel may take another two to three years to be completed. His remarks suggest that audiences may need to wait longer before the epic saga returns to the big screen.
Kalki 2898 AD featured a stellar ensemble including Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan and Tamil legend Kamal Haasan, alongside Prabhas and Deepika Padukone. The film’s grand visuals and powerful storytelling were elevated by Santhosh Narayanan’s memorable soundtrack, produced by Ashwini Dutt under Vyjayanthi Movies.
With Kalki 2, Nag Ashwin aims to push boundaries even further, promising an even bigger cinematic spectacle. While fans may have to be patient, expectations are soaring for what could become one of the most ambitious films ever made in Indian cinema.
