Nayanthara’s Controversial ‘Annapoorani’ Returns to Netflix!
After a brief hiatus, the film ‘Annapoorani’ is once again available on Netflix. Notably, this time it will be accessible to audiences outside of India, starting from August 9th. Nayanthara, the lady superstar, released her 75th film ‘Annapoorani’ with the tagline ‘The Goddess Of Food’ in December.
Prominent actors such as Satyaraj, KS Ravikumar, Jai, and others played significant roles in this movie. Initially, it premiered on Netflix a few weeks after its theatrical release, but it faced substantial backlash from various Hindu organizations who found the film’s content controversial. As a result, Netflix removed the film from its platform.

In ‘Annapoorani,’ Nayanthara portrays a Brahmin girl from a traditional family who aspires to become India’s top chef, despite her father’s opposition. The story follows her journey of overcoming obstacles to achieve her dream. Following the backlash, Zee Studios issued an apology to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). And announced the film’s removal from Netflix until the contentious parts were edited, back in January.
The controversy stemmed from Nayanthara’s character, a Brahmin woman. Cooking non-vegetarian food to win a competition, which offended some Hindu organizations. Additionally, the depiction of a romantic relationship between a Muslim man and a Brahmin woman was criticized for allegedly promoting Love Jihad. It remains to be seen how the decision to stream ‘Annapoorani’ internationally will be received.
