OG Surpasses Coolie, Creates New Premiere Record in North America
Telugu cinema has consistently proven its strong presence in overseas markets, particularly in North America. Where premiere collections often set the stage for a film’s box office run. In 2025, very few Indian films managed to leave a lasting mark. With Coolie emerging as the leader in August by raking in $3.04 million from its premieres — the highest for the year until now.
Pawan Kalyan’s much-awaited film has now toppled that record, They Call Him OG. Released worldwide on Thursday amid sky-high anticipation, the film made a thunderous start. In the Telugu states, it registered the year’s biggest opening day numbers. Further fueled by encouraging word of mouth from audiences.
OG Surpasses Coolie, Creates New Premiere Record in North America
Across North America, the film opened with premieres on Wednesday and grossed $3.13 million, setting a new benchmark. This figure not only marks the highest premiere collection of 2025 so far but also stands as Pawan Kalyan’s career-best opening day performance in the region. Impressively, OG now ranks as the fourth-largest Telugu premiere of all time, trailing only behind Kalki 2898 AD ($3.9M), RRR ($3.5M), and Pushpa 2: The Rule ($3.34M).
Industry reports also indicate that advance bookings for Thursday are robust, hinting at a strong weekend run in North America. With momentum on its side, OG is poised to continue its impressive streak at the global box office.
Directed by Sujeeth, the action-packed entertainer features an ensemble cast including Pawan Kalyan, Emraan Hashmi, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Arjun Das, Sriya Reddy, and Prakash Raj. The film is backed by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under DVV Entertainments, with music composed by Thaman S.
