Pavan Kalyan to contest from Pithapuram
Putting an end to the suspense, Pavan Kalyan, Jana Sena Party chief and Tollywood actor. Announced on March 14, Thursday that he would be contesting the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections from Pithapuram constituency.
He announced that he would be entering the fight from Pithapuram in Kakinada district. This declaration came when he was addressing the party’s formation day celebrations at its headquarters at Mangalagiri.
Pavan Kalyan will contest the poll as the candidate of the TDP-BJP-JSP alliance.
The ruling party, YSP Congress party has appointed its sitting MP Vanga Geetha from Kakinada, as its coordinator for Pithapuram.
But after Pawan Kalyan’s announcement, the YSP party may choose Mudragada Padmanabham, who recently announced joining the YSR Congress. He is a key leader of Kapus; a community Pawan Kalyan comes from.
Pavan Kalyan to contest from Pithapuram
Pendem Dorababu of the YSR Congress was elected from Pithapuram in 2019. Defeating SVSN Varma of the TDP by 14,992 votes. Whereas, M Seshu Kumari of the Jana Sena had finished a third. The Jana Sena is contesting 21 Assembly and two Lok Sabha seats, with the electoral alliance with TDP and the BJP which was announced recently.
Elections which are to be held in April-May are for 175 Assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats for the state. While the TDP will contest 144 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha seats, 10 Assembly and 6 Lok Sabha seats were left to the BJP.
Power Star – who is popularly known as had a devastating electoral debut in 2019, by losing both the Assembly seats he contested. He contested from Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram from Visakhapatnam and West Godavari districts but lost both to the YSR Congress candidates.
Pavan Kalyan’s party, the Jana Sena who has contested polls in alliance with BSP and the Left Parties secured only 1 Assembly seat.
He has also expressed that he was impressed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and backed up the BJP-TDP alliance. Pavan Kalyan later distanced himself from both parties after he alleged being backtracked on the promise to give a special category status to Andhra Pradesh. However, he later settled ties with them and joined the NDA.
Jana Sena has announced six candidates for Assembly polls so far. At a meeting with party leaders on Wednesday night, Pawan Kalyan is said to have approved another nine candidates.
