Revanth Challenges Harish Rao’s Resignation Over Crop Loan Waiver Promise
The verbal tussle between Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader T. Harish Rao heated up as Revanth dismissed Rao’s recent resignation letter as a mere stunt. The controversy revolves around Congress’ commitment to waive off crop loans for farmers by August 15.
In response to Harish Rao’s public challenge to resign if Congress failed to deliver on its crop loan waiver promise. Revanth Reddy called out the authenticity of Rao’s resignation letter. Claiming it didn’t conform to the format used by the Assembly Speaker. “He wrote a long seesa padyam [a Telugu poetry form] dictated by his uncle [KCR] under the guise of a resignation letter. This is not how a real resignation letter should look,” Revanth remarked, criticizing Rao’s theatrical gestures at the Martyrs Memorial.
Revanth made these comments while addressing the Congress’ social media team in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Telangana, scheduled for May 13. He reiterated Congress’ commitment to fulfilling its loan waiver promise, urging Rao to “keep his resignation ready.”

The chief minister emphasized that the crop loan waiver, which would cost the state between Rs 30,000-40,000 crores. Was part of Congress’ pledge to support farmers. Revanth declared, “Farmers are our people. Why should we be in power if we can’t waive their loans? Unlike you, I don’t loot; I can easily fund the loan waiver.”
Harish Rao’s Resignation Stunt
On Friday, Harish Rao visited the Martyrs Memorial (Gun Park) in Hyderabad. Where he publicly displayed his resignation letter, signaling his willingness to step down as an MLA if Congress fulfilled its promise of waiving crop loans by August 15. He also challenged Revanth Reddy to do the same, stating, “My MLAship is not more important than farmers benefiting from the crop loan waiver.”
Rao’s resignation letter, according to him, followed the correct Assembly Speaker’s format, suggesting that his intent was genuine. He further criticized Congress for its previous failures to meet its promises within 100 days of taking office, recalling Sonia Gandhi’s commitment to the people of Telangana.
With both sides firmly entrenched in their positions, the confrontation over crop loan waivers and political accountability in Telangana continues to escalate. The outcome will likely play a significant role in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
