Samantha Ruth Prabhu Reimagines Her Wedding Dress for Sustainable Fashion

At the Elle Sustainability Awards, Samantha Ruth Prabhu wowed the crowd with a unique twist on sustainable fashion. The black strapless gown she wore was not just a new addition to her wardrobe—it was a complete transformation of her wedding dress from 2017, skillfully reimagined by designer Kresha Bajaj.

Samantha originally wore the gown during her Christian wedding ceremony with her “Ye Maaya Chesave” co-star Naga Chaitanya. The original dress, designed by Bajaj, was a white off-shoulder gown with a full, flowing skirt. Samantha married Naga Chaitanya in a grand celebration in Goa, featuring both Christian and Hindu traditions.

Kresha Bajaj, who created the original gown, gave the dress a new life for the Elle Sustainability Awards. She described the reimagined gown as “a sculptural gown created with a cutwork corset, layers of French tulle, and embellished with 3D florals.” The revamped dress, now in chic black, featured a beaded bodice and a draped skirt. Samantha completed her look with a matching choker and rings, styling her hair in simple loose waves.

The transformation process was showcased in a video shared on Instagram, where the original white gown underwent a dramatic makeover. The video revealed how the dress was adorned with intricate floral and crystal details before being dyed black and altered to achieve a new silhouette. Bajaj captioned the video, expressing her excitement about collaborating with Samantha to create a new memory and tell a fresh story. She highlighted the enduring quality of beauty and its ability to transform over time.

Samantha, who received an award for sustainability, also took to Instagram to emphasize the importance of sustainable practices. She encouraged her followers to make small changes that contribute to a greener planet, noting that repurposing clothes is one way she’s embracing a more sustainable lifestyle.

For those unfamiliar with Samantha’s personal life, she married Naga Chaitanya in a lavish Goa ceremony in 2017, but their marriage did not last. The couple announced their separation on Instagram in 2021, just before their anniversary, and their divorce was finalized shortly afterward. Despite these personal changes, Samantha’s repurposed gown stands as a testament to transformation and sustainability in fashion.
