Ajay Devgn Subtly Criticizes Sandeep Reddy Vanga Amid Work Hour Debate

At the trailer launch of her upcoming film Maa, Kajol was asked about the growing demand among new mothers in the film industry for an 8-hour workday. Supporting the idea wholeheartedly, Kajol emphasized the importance of more manageable schedules for women balancing work and motherhood. Her husband, actor Ajay Devgn, added to the conversation. Suggesting that many thoughtful directors would be open to such changes in the industry.

The question came in light of the recent fallout between director Sandeep Reddy Vanga and actress Deepika Padukone, who exited his film Spirit. Reportedly, Deepika had requested a 6-hour working day to accommodate her role as a new mother—something the filmmaker did not take kindly to.

Speaking on the matter, Kajol reiterated her backing for shorter workdays for women with young children. Ajay Devgn commented, “It’s not a question of opposition. Most sensible directors understand the need for flexibility. The 8-hour shift isn’t just being requested by new mothers—it’s becoming common across the board. But ultimately, it depends on individual choices, and the industry is becoming increasingly aware of that.”

Deepika’s withdrawal from Spirit, one of Vanga’s most anticipated projects. Led to Triptii Dimri stepping in as the new female lead. Sources revealed that Deepika’s demands included a limited 6-hour schedule. A ₹20 crore fee, profit-sharing terms, and an unwillingness to deliver her lines in Telugu. These conditions reportedly led to creative friction with the director. Who later labeled her behavior as “unprofessional” and rejected her requests as excessive.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga didn’t hold back in his reaction to the controversy, standing firm on his stance and voicing his disagreement publicly.
