Amit Shah Doctored Video Case: 5 Telangana Congress IT Cell Members Arrested
According to PTI, the Telangana Police have arrested five members of the Telangana Congress IT team. In connection with a doctored video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This development came amid an ongoing investigation into the source and distribution of the deepfake video.
Though a Delhi Police team is currently in Telangana investigating the case. The arrests were carried out by the Hyderabad Cybercrime branch. Police sources mentioned they were nearing the identification of the person responsible for creating the deepfake video. However, before taking further action, authorities are verifying who initially uploaded or forwarded the video.
Along with the arrests, the Telangana Police have issued notices to five other individuals from different opposition parties. Allegedly for sharing the video. Summonses were sent to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and four members of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC): Shiva Kumar Ambala, Asma Tasleem, Satish Manne, and Naveen Pettem. These summonses were issued under Sections 91 and 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

On Thursday, a team from the Delhi Police’s Special Cell visited ‘Gandhi Bhawan,’ the TPCC headquarters in Hyderabad. The team met with local Telangana police and requested information regarding some of the leaders who had been served notices.
The investigation into the deepfake video is ongoing, but authorities have yet to receive responses from major social media platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook’s parent company). A senior Delhi Police officer indicated that tracing the origin of the doctored video is a key focus of the investigation and that a response from these social media companies is crucial. The same officer also noted that X had deleted all morphed versions of the video from its platform.
Overall, these arrests and summonses are part of broader efforts to track down those responsible for creating and disseminating the doctored video, which has raised concerns about misinformation and political manipulation in Telangana.
