Kamal Haasan Thug Life OTT Release Deal Scrapped?

Thug Life, touted as a major collaboration between Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after nearly four decades, turned out to be one of the biggest box office failures of the year. Despite high expectations, the film couldn’t attract audiences and saw a disappointing turnout even during its opening weekend.

Netflix had earlier secured the digital rights to Thug Life for a premium price—among the highest ever for a Tamil film. The streaming giant’s interest was largely due to Mani Ratnam’s successful association with Netflix through Ponniyin Selvan: 1 & 2. However, due to the film’s underwhelming performance, the OTT deal has now been called off.

Originally, the plan was to premiere the movie on Netflix eight weeks post its theatrical run. But following its disastrous box office outcome, Thug Life is now expected to release much earlier on the platform. An official streaming date is likely to be announced soon.

The action drama features an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Simbu, Abhirami, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Sanya Malhotra, Joju George, Nassar, and Ali Fazal.
