President Droupadi Murmu, on Sunday, visited the residence of senior BJP leader LK Advani to confer upon him the prestigious Bharat Ratna award. This decision was made in consideration of Advani’s ailing health. The central government had announced five recipients for the Bharat Ratna this year, among whom was BJP leader LK Advani.

“I am pleased to announce that Shri LK Advani Ji will receive the Bharat Ratna. I had the privilege of speaking with him and extending my congratulations on this well-deserved honor. He is one of the most esteemed statesmen of our era, with a monumental contribution to India’s progress. Beginning his journey from grassroots activism, he ascended to the role of Deputy Prime Minister, leaving an indelible mark as our Home Minister and I&B Minister. His parliamentary engagements have consistently been exemplary, offering profound insights,” PM shared on X.

Born in Karachi, present-day Pakistan, on November 8, 1927, Advani boasts a distinguished political career. He held the presidency of the Bharatiya Janata Party for the longest tenure since its inception in 1980. Concluding nearly three decades in Parliament, he served as Home Minister initially and later as Deputy Prime Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s leadership from 1999 to 2004.
