Directed by Amit R Sharma, “Maidaan,” starring Ajay Devgan as former football coach Syed Abdul Rahim, is set to hit cinemas on April 10. Following the success of his previous film, Vikas Bahl’s home invasion drama “Shaitaan.” Ajay Devgan’s fans are eagerly anticipating his portrayal in “Maidaan.” In celebration of his 55th birthday, the filmmakers unveiled the final trailer of the movie.
Ajay Devgan takes on the role of India’s former football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in “Maidaan.” The trailer expands on the narrative introduced in the earlier teaser. It opens with Priyamani’s character delivering a motivating speech to her husband, Syed Abdul Rahim. Praising his belief in India’s potential to excel in football at the upcoming Olympics during the 1950s, a time of newfound independence for the nation.
Amidst the bureaucratic challenges represented by Gajraj Rao’s character, Ajay’s Syed Abdul Rahim is depicted recruiting young footballers from the margins, assembling India’s underdog team, one player at a time. However, the trailer also reveals the team’s struggles not only against tough competitors on the field but also against the hostility of the crowd and protestors outside the stadium, demanding India to “go back.”

Speaking about the film and his portrayal of Syed Abdul Rahim, Ajay expressed, “Apart from being a great story. I never knew that something like that had happened in our country and football had reached its peak and only because of, I can’t say one man. But one man and these players who changed the course of football in the ‘50s and ’60s. In fact, I was shocked and surprised this would have happened and there is a person like him. That was the first thing that this story needs to be told.”
“Maidaan” also stars Bengali actor Rudrani Ghosh. Produced by Zee Studios, Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta, and Akash Chawla, the screenplay and dialogues are penned by Saiwyn Quadras and Ritesh Shah, respectively. The music is composed by AR Rahman, with lyrics by Manoj Muntashir Shukla.
Set to release on April 10, “Maidaan” will compete at the box office with “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.”
