Srikanth Movie Review:
Aided by a remarkable performance from Rajkummar Rao, “Srikanth” is not your average Bollywood biopic. Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, the film tells the incredible true story of industrialist Srikanth Bolla. Who overcame poverty and discrimination to achieve great success.
The movie is a classic rags-to-riches saga, enriched by the director’s refusal to rely on standard genre tropes. The visually impaired protagonist fights against discrimination, bullying, and a myopic education system to pursue higher studies in science.
The movie starts with a dramatic sequence that exaggerates the circumstances surrounding the birth of a blind boy in a village in Machilipatnam, undivided Andhra Pradesh. However, the screenplay by Jagdeep Siddhu and Sumit Purohit stays away from overly sentimental methods. Even in the crucial courtroom scenes where Srikanth, with his teacher Devika (Jyothika) by his side, has to convince a judge, a college principal, and a skeptical lawyer that he deserves a fair chance, the film manages to maintain a moderate tone while advocating for equal opportunities for individuals with physical differences.
However, at times, the film tends to state the obvious when it could have left more to the audience’s imagination and interpretation. “Srikanth” tells the remarkable story of a young man with exceptional vision and determination but also highlights moments when he struggles with self-confidence and arrogance.
It is how these weaknesses are triggered with the few people in his life. Also his girlfriend, Swathi. Srikanth uses the song “Papa Kehte Hain Bada Naam Karega” from the movie “Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak” as a musical refrain. The song focuses not only on the hero’s father but also on a teacher who mentors the boy and teaches him to overcome adversity.
Srikanth is for sure a film that needs to be watched by a large audience. Its more than just a story. Truly a celebration of a heartwarming world with a new light.
