Homebound Shortlisted for Best International Feature at Oscars 2026

Indian cinema has achieved a proud milestone as the Hindi film Homebound has been shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards, popularly known as Oscars 2026. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled its shortlists across 12 categories on Tuesday. And Homebound has secured a coveted place among the 15 films still in contention for a final nomination.

This development marks a significant step forward for the film and has sparked excitement among Indian film enthusiasts. With the final nominations set to be announced on January 22, 2026, Homebound now stands just one step away from making history on the global stage. Sharing the shortlist with Homebound are acclaimed films from around the world, including Belén (Argentina), The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sound of Falling (Germany), The President’s Cake (Iraq), Kokuho (Japan), All That’s Left of You (Jordan), Sentimental Value (Norway), Palestine 36 (Palestine), No Other Choice (South Korea), Sirât (Spain), Late Shift (Switzerland), Left-Handed Girl (Taiwan), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia).

Producer Karan Johar took to social media to express his overwhelming happiness. Describing the journey of Homebound as deeply emotional and a moment of immense pride for the entire Dharma Productions team. He called the film an important addition to their filmography and celebrated the global acknowledgment it has received.

Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound is India’s official entry for the Oscars this year. The film features Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in pivotal roles. Centered on themes of caste and religious prejudice, the narrative follows two friends as they confront societal barriers while striving to shape their futures. The film is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
