Paresh Rawal Faces Rs 25 Crore Lawsuit from Producers
Veteran Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, who now trends more for his meme-worthy expressions from classic films than for his on-screen appearances, finds himself in hot water. Known for his comic timing and especially for his unforgettable role in Hera Pheri, Rawal is currently making headlines for all the wrong reasons.
According to recent reports, the production house Cape of Good Films, which is backing Hera Pheri 3, has filed a legal notice against Rawal, seeking compensation of Rs 25 crore. The reason? What they describe as “unprofessional conduct” on the actor’s part.
The producers allege that Rawal’s abrupt decision to leave the film caused significant financial setbacks. After acquiring the rights from various parties and clearing all the pending dues associated with the franchise, the production team was looking to bring the beloved comedy series back to life after two decades.
However, Rawal’s sudden withdrawal appears to have derailed those plans. The makers assert that his exit resulted in major losses and they are determined not to let actors dictate terms anymore. Taking inspiration from Hollywood practices, they believe film contracts will now serve as a safeguard to prevent last-minute pullouts.
Paresh Rawal Faces Rs 25 Crore Lawsuit from Producers
Earlier this month, Paresh Rawal surprised everyone—including his co-stars Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty—by announcing his departure from Hera Pheri 3. He clarified on social media that his decision wasn’t due to any creative disputes with director Priyadarshan.
In a statement, Rawal wrote:
“I want to clarify that my decision to step away from Hera Pheri 3 had nothing to do with creative disagreements. I continue to have great admiration, respect, and trust in Mr. Priyadarshan, the director of the film.”
Despite this clarification, the filmmakers remain unconvinced. They claim that Rawal has not provided a valid reason for stepping down, and the move has left the entire team disappointed and frustrated—especially since the actor had already participated in a promotional shoot featuring the main trio.
Director Priyadarshan also expressed his dismay, saying he was both shocked and emotionally hurt by Rawal’s decision. Recalling their long-standing bond, he said that Rawal was like family to him and that he still doesn’t understand the rationale—or possible hidden motives—behind the exit.
As the controversy unfolds, it highlights the increasing need for professionalism and accountability in the film industry, even from its most seasoned actors.
