Lokesh Kanagaraj recently released the teaser for Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated upcoming film, Thalaivar 171. Revealing that the movie’s official title is Coolie. The teaser pays tribute to Rajinikanth’s iconic portrayals of coolies. In classic films like Uzhaipaali (1993), Mannan (1992), and Mullum Malarum (1978). The homage to the superstar’s celebrated career has delighted fans. Who also noticed an Easter egg: Rajinikanth singing “Siva Sambo” from Ninaithale Inikkum (1979). A nod to the hedonistic lifestyle his character embodied.

Lokesh Kanagaraj has confirmed that Coolie is distinct from his cinematic universe, which includes films like Vikram, Kaithi, and Leo. This makes Coolie the third standalone film in his directorial career, following Maanagaram and Master.

The first-look poster for Coolie was unveiled last month. It features a monochromatic image of Rajinikanth in a denim shirt, bound by a chain of wristwatches that stand out in color against the grayscale background. A prominent clock looms in the background, hinting at a possible time-travel element in the storyline. The use of watches has also fueled fan theories about a potential connection to Suriya’s Rolex character.

On social media platform X, Lokesh Kanagaraj announced the film’s title reveal on April 22, sharing the poster with the caption “#Thalaivar171TitleReveal on April 22.” While the rest of the cast remains a mystery, it is confirmed that Anirudh Ravichander will once again collaborate with Rajinikanth for the music. Renowned action choreographers Anbu-Arivu are also on board, and the film is produced by Sun Pictures.

While working on Coolie, Rajinikanth is also involved in a separate project with director TJ Gnanavel, titled Vettaiyan, which is set to be released later this year.
