On an evening at Chinnaswamy where records were broken one after another and Royal Challengers Bengaluru succumbed to a dreadful fifth straight defeat, the 38-year-old Dinesh Karthik was at his very best, DK produced an absolute gem of a knock and almost gave RCB a sniff of a win before his side finished at 262 for 7 in the record chase.

The right-handed Karthik has been in jaw-dropping form while playing for RCB in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 7 games until now, the veteran has racked up 226 runs at an average of 75.33 and a strike-rate of 205.45 with 2 half-centuries.

Karthik’s knock was laced with seven sixes and five fours and he kept the hopes alive till almost the final over in the mammoth chase. He hit sixes to all parts of the ground while the fans kept chanting, ‘DK-DK’.

Ambati Rayudu said that Dinesh Karthik should be picked to play for India in the T20 World Cup to be held in the USA and West Indies.

On the match front, Australian batter Travis Head smashed a century while his skipper Pat Cummins grabbed three wickets as SRH defeated RCB by 25 runs after posting the highest-ever IPL total in Bengaluru on Monday.

SRH scored  287/3, the second highest in all forms of T20 cricket, and then restricted the home team to 262/7.

SRH skipper Cummins then returned figures of 3/43, while spinner Mayank Markande (2/46) took two as the visitors managed to restrict RCB despite a heroic effort from Dinesh Karthik who hit a 35-ball 83 with the help of five fours and seven sixes.

A heartbroken Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain, Faf du Plessis, said that the team’s confidence had reached an all-time low after losing by 25 runs vs SRH.
