Given its substantial budget of 250 crores, the domestic earnings of 81 crores are underwhelming. Consequently, Netflix is now reconsidering its original OTT rights deal with the filmmakers.
Track Tollywood reports that Netflix acquired the streaming rights for Indian 2 at 120 crores, paying this amount before the film’s theatrical release. However, due to the film’s poor performance, Netflix is seeking a substantial refund and is unwilling to honor the original 120 crore deal.
Recently, OTT platforms have been determining the final deal amount based on films’ box office performances. In the case of Indian 2, negotiations between Netflix and the filmmakers are expected to take place. Until then, the film’s OTT premiere will be on hold.
